Public liability insurance customers have been praised for helping to reduce the number of deaths in the industry last year.

New statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) showed that 20 workers were fatally injured at work in London between April 2008 and March 2009. This figure is down from 26 in the previous year, while the number of major injuries fell by 104 over the same period.

Stephen Williams, director of field operations for the London division of the HSE, said that it is really encouraging to see the improvements in the number of fatal incidents.

"In spite of the encouraging overall statistics today, let us not forget that they tell us a story of individuals and families who have suffered. This underlines the real risks that people face in work every day," he added.

The overall health and safety picture for the UK also improved, with 53 less deaths compared to the previous year, while workplace injuries were also reduced by 7,000.ADNFCR-2022-ID-19434746-ADNFCR
