The National Asbestos Helpline is demonstrating to public liability
insurance holders the dangers of the cancer-related material through a
series of UK roadshows.
Having set off from Potters Fields, London, the tour bus will visit
areas of Britain with high mortality rates from exposure to asbestos,
including regional stops in Maidstone, Portsmouth, Cardiff and
Liverpool.
Vivian Hillard, a former worker in the East Moors Steelworks, Cardiff
Bay, told the South Wales Echo that years ago there was no health and
safety, stating that if something happened then people had to be quick
on their feet and "run for their life".
However, 12 months ago he was diagnosed with asbestosis and was advised
to get in touch with the National Asbestos Helpline.
"They sat us down and went through the whole thing with us and then told
us what we could do next. We are of course aware of the links asbestosis
has to lung cancer but we will be taking it one day at a time," said his
wife Joan.
