Builders liability insurance customers have been warned about the dangers of transport in the workplace after a company was prosecuted.

Colin Parker (Masonry) was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay costs of over £10,000 after it pleaded guilty to breaching Sections 2(1) and 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Margate magistrates court was told how the driver of a lorry was unloading stone slabs weighing 220 kg each when the stack collapsed on him in September last year.

Health and Safety Executive inspector Caroline Penwill said: "This was a horrific incident which led to a delivery driver having to have his left arm amputated at the roadside. It is vital that companies think more about the safety of their staff while they are out of the office on deliveries or carrying out work."
